"Stoneyburn - The Forgotten Baby" was written by John Bishop Murray and published in 1995.

Born in Milngavie (pronounced 'Millguy'), near Glasgow on the 9th February 1937, John was educated at Milngavie Junior School and at Bearsden Academy.  He worked with the Forestry Commission from 1953 to 1958 with two years National Service in the Royal Navy during these years.

John then became an Animal Technician in the Zoology Department of the University of Glasgow and then trained as a taxidermist in the Kelvingrove Museum in 1959.  He worked as a taxidermist in the Natural History Museum in Nottingham from 1961 to 1964 and then moved to the Royal Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh until 1977 when be brought his family to take of the Post Office in Stoneyburn.

John is a skilled Naturalist with special knowledge of birds of prey.  His other interests are steam locomotives and aircraft, in particular military aerobatic display teams.  He is also interested in Scottish history and in Freemasonry.

John served as Postmaster for Stoneyburn for twentysix years until his wife, Sue, took over the business until it was sold in May 2003.
